Book Description

The primary purpose of Contemporary Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is to present a comprehensive description of the basic oral surgery procedures that the practitioner performs in his surgery. A secondary goal is to present information regarding advanced and complex surgical management of patients to the oral and maxillofacial surgeon. The book is designed principally for use as a text for the dental student, but the material is sufficiently comprehensive to serve as a reference book for the general practitioner in private practice. The specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery will also find this text of value, especially those sections which relate to the management of medically compromised patients and concepts of the team approach to dentofacial injuries, deformities and pathology. This text presents the fundamental principles of surgical and medical management of oral surgery problems. The basic techniques of evaluation, diagnosis and medical management are presented in sufficient detail to allow immediate clinical application. Surgical techniques are heavily illustrated so that the reader will gain a clear idea of what is discussed in the text. The goal is to provide the reader with sufficient information to help him understand the biological as well as the technical aspects of surgical procedures in order that he will respond to surgical situations in his practice that are not 'textbook cases.'
